New memorial pays tribute to Gold Star families

Above, World War II Medal of Honor recipient and Gold Star Family Member Memorial founder Hershel “Woody” Williams addresses Hawaii Gold Star families at a dedication ceremony held at the Hawaii Memorial Park in Kaneohe, March 17. At right, A dedication ceremony was held for the opening of a memorial monument for Gold Star Families. Multiple organizations including federal, state and local members helped support the construction of a stone memorial honoring the Gold Star Families who have lost loved ones, while serving in the U.S. military. The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Foundation was created by Williams in 2010 to remember families who have made the ultimate sacrifice. To date, there are 32 monuments dedicated throughout the United States with 45 additional projects in process in 36 states.
