Navy corpsman shakes hands with Samoan chief on Oahu

Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Fatu Suesue, U.S. Navy, shakes hands with Chief of all Samoans, Joseph Solotoa, on the island of Oahu in August 1957. Suesue was a passenger on board USS Sussex (AK-213) and would take leave in his native Samoa. Due to the lack of funds of Samoan Sailors during this time, the U.S. Navy utilized Sussex as a mode of transportation for the Sailors to have some leave time at home.
