Hickam Harbor Marina at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam will host an Earth Day celebration April 19 and 20.

“We expect about 500 people to participate in Friday and Saturday’s activities,” said Gavin Doi, Hickam Marina office manager.

On April 19, patrons have the opportunity to camp out at Foster Point or on the beach. Participants can relax with family, while making s’mores and watching a movie on the beach.

On April 20, several activities for the whole family will take place, such as banana boat rides ($5 for 15-minute ride), free sailing, bounce houses and tide/ touch pools for the children and entire families.

Patrons can sign up to help keep local beaches clean and to visit Earth Day booths from the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Bioenvironmental, NAVFAC and a local wetland cleanup effort.

“We hope customers will be more aware of the effects on the local and global environment. We hope bringing families out to enjoy the Harbor and some of the programs that are helping to conserve the natural resources will teach kids the value of the ocean and its nearby environment,” Doi said.

According to Doi, the event is for all patrons to learn about the environment and to learn how to protect it, but also to see what water activities are offered each day for MWR patrons.
