70 years of integrity, service, excellence

Heather Wilson
Secretary of the Air Force

On Sept. 18, we celebrate the 70th birthday of the United States Air Force. We defend the homeland, own the high ground, and project power with our allies – all thanks to your service and sacrifice of your families.

In 1947, outspoken advocates for airpower risked reputation and rank to establish the United States Air Force as a separate service. Since then, generations of Airmen, strengthened our service and protected our country. Each generation upheld the highest standards of professionalism and excellence for the next, serving as sentinels of dominant air and space power.

The Air Force has evolved significantly since 1947, but our values remain constant: integrity first, service before self and excellence in all we do. You live these values every day, making our Air Force the envy of the world as we boldly take our service in to the future.

We are honored to serve with you and sincerely thank you and your families for all that you do. Happy Birthday to the United States Air Force!
